Olympic Air to take over operations from Olympic Airlines |

On Tuesday 29-Sep-2009 Olympic Air will take over the operations of Olympic Airlines, which itself is the replacement name for Olympic Airways after the reorganization in 2003.
The change in name reflects the change of ownership after the Greek and United Arab Emirates owned Marfin Investment Group had been chosen by the Greek government to buy its unprofitable flag carrier in March 2009 for 177 million euros.
For an investment of around 750 million euros the Marfin Group built up a startup fleet of five Airbus 320, eight A319, seven Bombardier Dash 8-Q400, three Dash 8-100 and one ATR 42-300. Further fleet development plans for a fleet of nine A320 and seven A319 in March 2010. The turboprop fleet will grow to ten Dash 8-Q400, five Dash 8-100 and one ATR 42-300.
The initial network includes ten international and twenty domestic destinations. For 14 additional PSO (Public Service Obligation) domestic destinations and bilaterally serviced destinations Olympic Air is awaiting the approval of the Greek Civil Aviation Authority.
The service to Vienna will see daily flights by Airbus 319.
