Austrian Airlines

 

Austrian Airlines is expanding its intercontinental network with the addition of Chicago. Flights will start on May 13, 2013 with Boeing 767-300ER equipped with newly installed flat-bed seats in business class.

Flights between Vienna and Altenrhein have been terminated on March 30, 2013. After competitor People's Viennaline - set up by the owner of Altenrhein airport - had introduced flights on the route exactly two years ago Austrian found it increasingly difficulty to generate sufficient yield for an economically viable operation. Austrian Airlines had been operating flights between Vienna and Altenthein since 2002 with the take-over of regional airline Rheintalflug.

Austrian Airlines is increasing the frequency of its flights to the Armenian capital Yerewan from presently five weekly flights to six. This steps follows the collapse of state carrier Aramvia and the resulting lack of sufficient flight connections out of Armenia.

 

 

Intersky

 

Intersky has taken delivery of its second new ATR72-600 on 05APR13. The aircraft with s/n 1042 and registration OE-LID joins a fleet of three owned Bombardier Dash 8-300, one ATR72-600 and one ATR72-200 wet-leased from Avanti Air.

 

 

Foreign operators

 

 

Air Berlin will take over the seasonal route from Vienna to Heringsdorf-Usedom from collapsed OLT Express. The flights will be operated between 22JUN13 and 21SEP13 with DHC8-Q400 equipment.

Air Dolomiti has terminated services between Verona and Vienna with effect 17MAY13. The Italian carrier had been serving the route ten times weekly with ATR72 equipment. The reason for this decision seems to be the fact, that due to the phase-out of the ATR42/72 aircraft from Air Dolomiti's fleet - the last six operating ATR72 will have left the fleet in NOV13 - the carrier is left with no suitable equipment to economically operate between VRN and VIE.

 

Etihad Cargo will commence a weekly cargo flight from/to Abu Dhabi on June 02 operated with Airbus 330F equipment on Sundays. The inbound flight will be routed via Benghazi in Libya.

KLM will add a fifth daily frequency between Amsterdam and Vienna on weekends in the period from 06JUL13 to 01SEP13. The flights will be operated by Embraer 190 aircraft.

Korean Air is planning  an increase of capacity on its 3 weekly Seoul Incheon - Vienna - Zurich - Seoul Incheon route from 01AUG13 to 24AUG13. Instead of Boeing 777-200ER this route will be served by bigger Boeing 777-300ER aircraft during this time period.

Kuwait Airways will operate two weekly flights to Vienna between 08AUG13 and 22SEP13. The flights will be operated with Airbus A300-600 on Thursday and Sunday.

Minoan Air, a Greece-based regional operator with a fleet of four Fokker 50, has set up a base in Lugano, Switzerland, from where it has commenced operations to Rome and Vienna with one F50 on 28MAR13.

Rostock Airways, a start-up airline based in Rostock in northern Germany, located on the coastline of the Baltic Sea, reportedly is intending to launch a weekly connection between Rostock and Vienna commencing in August 2013. Initial operations are rumored to be planned on a ACMI basis. The airline plans to set up a solid commercial operation before obtaining its own AOC. Local media reported in March that the intended aircraft type for the route is the Bombardier Dash 8-Q400.
